Hawaii Resource Library Music

When we were kids growing up in Waimea and on Oahu in the early 1950's, we did not have a TV and the radio did not work too well. All the family would get together in our garage on week ends. My cousin "Feets" would play the stand up piano. Uncle Sam Mahoe would play the washboard base or Guitar, my dad Al on the base (his voice was not too good but he tried). My mom "Fannie" the Uke, and I would follow, eventually I got into "picking" and some slack key. Aunty Harriet Purdy and my sister Leila danced Hula. My mom had the world's best hands, she still does...it's all in the hands. My tutuman (grandfather Charlie Lindsey) could really dance a mean hula.

Aunty Genoa Keawe would come by to eat, sing and talk story. We would sing Hawaiian songs and play music for hours, all week end. In Waimea, we had a Ford Model T and all of the little kids (cousins), mom and her sister Aunty Kamaile would drive down to the Parker Ranch Beach (Mauna Kea Beach Hotel today) and we would fish, camp and play music on the beach. Us Waimea Lindsey's knew how to party and make music. That is my Hawaii and our music.

Here is some music for the Hawaiian soul. Wherever you happen to be in the world, Support Hawaiian artists. ENJOY these sounds. It's manuahi, why not? :)
